Paul Braconnier vit un enfer conjugal avec sa femme, une mégère alcoolique. Chacun cherche le moyen de supprimer l'autre. Paul se rend chez un célèbre avocat qui lui apprend involontairement comment accomplir son crime. Paul rentre alors chez lui, tue sa femme et se constitue prisonnier. Défendu par l'avocat, il est acquitté et revient triomphant au village.

Through a series of circumstances and plot twists an enterprising man manages to get away with murdering his wife, even though he cheerfully admits his guilt in court.
