Origine

L’expression “voir la vie en rose” signifie qu’une personne est optimiste et voir ainsi la vie de façon positive. La couleur rose se rapproche de la gaieté et de l’apaisement. Une explication est donnée sur l’origine de la locution.

Un frère nommé Joël a donné une explication à l’Abbaye de Saint-Martin de Mondaye. Autrefois pendant l’Avent, les habits du prêtre étaient de couleur violette. Cette couleur parut sévère voire austère. Donc les prêtres changèrent de couleur d’habit et se vêtirent de rose le dimanche du Gaudete.

Origin

The expression "voir la vie en rose" means that a person is optimistic and thus sees the world from a positive perspective. The color pink connotes happiness and pleasantness.  One explanation is given on this meaning. 

A friar, named Joël gave an explanation to the Abby of Saint Martin of Mondaye. In the past, during Advent, the habits of the priest were in violette. This color appeared serious or even austere. Therefore the priests changed the color of their habit and dressed in pink on the Sunday before Christmas.
